Please find attached a copy of draft amendment of Marine Orders Part 56, REEFREP (MO 56) circulated for public consultation.  A document explaining the changes and the current MO are also attached to clarify the differences.

The purpose of the amendment is to extend the area where the mandatory Ship Reporting System (SRS) applies in the Great Barrier ReefMarinePark. The current SRS area applies north of Latitude 22 degrees south and the REEFREP extension will cover the southern boundary of the Great Barrier ReefMarinePark, to just north of Bundaberg, Queensland.  These requirements have been approved by the International Maritime Organization and are intended to apply from 1 July 2011.

The extension of the SRS is one of the measures being introduced after the grounding of the Shen Neng 1 in April last year

This draft amendment is circulated to provide you with an opportunity to comment upon the draft. Your comments should be made on the draft marine order public comment notification form ‘AMSA246.dot’ which is attached. To facilitate the consultation process it would be appreciated if your comments are received by 19 May 2011
