The Queensland Seafood Industry Association (QSIA) has called for speedy resolution of outstanding claims- over impacts from the 2004 rezoning of the GBR Marine Park QSIA senior vice President Mr Robin Hansen said. Approximately 60 fishing families were waiting for decisions on appeals over earlier under-payments for the impacts of fishing bans.

A half-million-dollar campaign to promote local seafood has been launched in Cairns.
Queensland Seafood Industry Association (QSIA) Senior Vice President Mr Robin Hansen told guests at an official launch ceremony today the campaign was designed to improve availability of local seafood in Cairns, boost demand and increase industry profitability.

The seafood industry has welcomed the Federal Government's review of Queensland's inshore fishing plans- and called on environmental lobbyists to accept the outcome.
"We are confident the Federal Government's review team will find the proposed management plan for Queensland inshore fishing, basically inshore net fishing, is a good plan, a sustainable plan," industry spokesman Mr Robin Hansen said today.

The seafood industry has described a campaign to have the entire Coral Sea region declared off limits to fishing as ludicrous.
"If there wasn't an organisation as wealthy as the American-based Pew Group behind the campaign, we would dismiss it out of hand," industry spokesman Mr Robin Hansen said.
