Marine Planning Extension for East Marine Bioregion Plan

THE seafood industry has welcomed a six-month extension of the deadline for the proposed East Marine Bioregion Plan off the Queensland coast.
Industry spokesman Michael Gardner said today the previous deadline had been unrealistic and the Australian Government had agreed to a six-month extension.
The revised timing means a draft plan will be released in mid 2010 rather than early in the year as planned.

Queensland marine managers and the Queensland seafood industry have joined forces to help ensure commercial fishing on the Great Barrier Reef is sustainable in the face of threats like climate change.
The partnership between the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) and Queensland Seafood Industry Association (QSIA) will be officially launched in Townsville today (14 August 2009).

Fishermen are angry there is no plan to lift the "Pacific Adventurer" containers off the seafloor.
They say the shipping containers off Moreton Island are causing ongoing losses to fishermen through preventing trawling in important fishing grounds.
